■ KONKYLIE PORCELAIN BOWL, designed by Arje Griegst for Royal Copenhagen, Denmark, circa 1980s, the white porcelain body modelled as an asymmetric conch with a raised spiralling crown at one end and a softly hollowed basin, finished in a clear transparent glaze permitting the depth of the modelling and the marks of the hand to remain fully legible.
Excellent condition, light patina consistent with age and gentle use; no chips, cracks, hairlines or restoration. Length 24.5 cm (9 ⅝ inches); width 17.5 cm (6 ⅞ inches); height 8.5 cm (3 ⅜ inches).
The underside impressed and painted with the Royal Copenhagen crown, the three waves uncrossed indicating first-quality production, the decorator number 347, and Arje Griegst's painted AG monogram.
Arje Griegst (Copenhagen, 1938 - 2016) trained as a goldsmith before extending his practice into ceramics and glass, and his collaborations with Royal Copenhagen from the late 1970s - the Konkylie series chief among them - are held as one of the most distinctive additions to the manufactory's late twentieth-century output. The Konkylie series was produced from 1974 into the 1990s.
